RES believes in meaningful and productive consultation, and we aim to engage with the local community and key stakeholders in order to facilitate constructive consultation. This helps to identify issues and concerns, as well as benefits and opportunities, which we can then consider when developing the design of the repowering proposal.

3. Local benefit

RES is proposing to deliver a tailored community benefits package aligned with the priorities of the local community. This package would be worth £5,000 per megawatt* (or equivalent) of installed capacity per annum and could include RES’ unique Local Electricity Discount Scheme (LEDS). LEDS offers an annual discount to the electricity bills of those properties closest to a participating wind farm. The community benefit package will be informed by feedback from the community so we are keen to understand what initiatives the community would like to see supported by the benefits package.

*The £5,000 per MW per annum benchmark is drawn from the Scottish Government’s current Good Practice Principles for Community Benefits from Onshore Renewable Energy Developments. We are aware of the ongoing consultation on proposed updates to this guidance and will have regard to any revised recommendations when finalised
